A little more information about me;
“Hello, I’m Kadir Zaman, an art director, designer, musician, and photographer. I’m generally interested in everything related to art.”
Throughout my life, my hobbies have always turned into a business for me;
I was involved with music, it turned into a business; I was involved with graphic design, it turned into a business; I was involved with photography, it turned into a business. I’ve learned from my humble experience that when you pursue something you enjoy, success always follows.
Introduction to computers;
Regarding my interaction with computers, it started at a very young age. In 1995, my first computer was a Pentium 166 mmx processor computer with Windows 95 operating system and a floppy disk drive. Later came CDs, DVDs, USB drives, and now, to my current usage, I am a Macbook Pro user. Looking at the design changes of the computer, I can now charge my computer and do all data input and output from the same port. This minimalist design makes everything better and easier.
Digital design was the beginning of my life;
Digital design started when I was 14, in high school, for fun, using Photoshop to create entertaining content by manipulating movie posters and mayoral election posters. My family, who were educators, had shown me a path to becoming an engineer or teacher, but even back then, my path was clear; digital cameras weren’t widespread, so I took photos with a borrowed 2-megapixel compact camera. Later, during my university years, I became more actively involved with music. The inability to find designers to create posters for our concerts further motivated me, and as you might guess, at my family’s insistence, I enrolled in an engineering faculty.
What kind of designer am I?
Generally, I’m a minimalist designer, and I use the golden ratio as much as possible, although sometimes I lean towards Dadaism. Actually, I approach design with a bit more freedom; I don’t confine it to a specific standard or pattern. I create whatever I feel at the moment. Or, when composing music, I might play a solo in a pentatonic scale and then switch to a diatonic scale to create different melodies. I believe that for a work to be original, we shouldn’t confine it to a specific pattern.
For me, the simplest is the best; I try not to use anything unnecessary as much as possible. In the communication I want to establish, I focus on the main object or brand rather than the branches of the subject.
My opinion as Art Director;
In my opinion, an art director needs to know about photography, music, video, and graphic design. I don’t believe that the job of art director can be done without having the necessary skills and experience in these areas.
An art director needs to be involved in everything related to art in order to draw inspiration and create something new.
First and foremost, I draw inspiration from theater, from film, from music, from nature, from neighborhood culture, … and I create things with the feelings that come from the blend of all these.
What is my job?
Generally speaking, saying “this isn’t my job” doesn’t apply to me. Whether it’s product packaging, a website interface, a mobile application, a poster design, a magazine cover, product or model photography—in short, if the topic is communication, then this is my job.
